As you may or may not know, Movember challenges men to grow a moustache for the 30-days of November, thereby changing their appearance and the face of men’s health. As the only person in the office (tut-tut to all fellow office boys) partaking in this years’ Movember I felt it was high time to put pen to paper (key to screen?) and spread some Mo-Love!
The UK Movember campaign raised a staggering £27.0 million in 2012 which is a hell of lot of money for what is essentially an awful lot of people growing a little bit of facial hair! Every man, no matter how old you are needs to, at least once in their lives, explore the potential of their hairy chin! Of the funds raised in the UK in 2012, 82.2% has been committed to programmes supporting prostate cancer and testicular cancer initiatives.
However, something just caught my eye, and it’s really big! The Cerne Abbas Giant in Dorset has been sporting facial "hair" in support of Movember. The 180ft (55m) tall giant's new moustache is 36ft (11m) by 9ft (2.7m). A spokesman at British Seed Houses, which grew the grassy whiskers, said it gave him a "rakish" appearance. Local folklore describes the club-wielding figure, which dates back to at least 1694, as a symbol of spirituality and fertility.
Never mind all that, the giant now has two things far larger than I will ever have! ;-)
Good luck and well done to all those sporting their Mo’s with pride!
